HTML How to Make a Website Creating HTML Content Create Navigation with Lists

Html lists challenge task 3/3 doesn't validate my answer.

Hey guys,

I quite don't get why the following code doesn't work. Could you please help me? It's the only item left in my html course.

The challenge is: "Link each of the three list items. Portfolio should go to “index.html”, About should go to “about.html”, and Contact should go to “contact.html”."

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Nick Pettit</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <header>
      <a href="index.html">
        <nav>
          <ul>
            <li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
            <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
            <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>
          </ul>
        </nav>
        <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
        <h2>Designer</h2>
      </a>
    </header>
    <section></section>
    <footer>
      <p>&copy; 2013 Nick Pettit.</p>
    </footer>
  </body>
</html>

Thanks!

Guillaume

hmm it looks like you have your list in the wrong place (the challenge should have caught that and not let you continue to this last task. Your nav and list is supposed to go AFTER the link in the header (you have your nav and list inside the link in the header). I tried your code but moved the nav and list after the first link in the header and it worked.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Nick Pettit</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <header>
      <a href="index.html">

        <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
        <h2>Designer</h2>
      </a>
      <nav>
          <ul>
            <li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
            <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
            <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>
          </ul>
        </nav>
    </header>
    <section></section>
    <footer>
      <p>&copy; 2013 Nick Pettit.</p>
    </footer>
  </body>
</html>

Try this I hope it helps, I just removed the first link

 <!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Nick Pettit</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <header>
        <nav>
          <ul>
            <li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
            <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
            <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>
          </ul>
        </nav>
        <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
        <h2>Designer</h2>
    </header>
    <section></section>
    <footer>
      <p>&copy; 2013 Nick Pettit.</p>
    </footer>
  </body>
</html>

Guilliaume,

My guess would be that you have everything within your header wrapped in a link tag, making the entire block of code a single link. Try removing that and see if it helps.

Thanks a lot Irfan Ullah , Jay Laiche and Stone Preston . I totally see my mistake now.

Have a good weekend guys.
