Please advise as to how I can get pass this challenge. Apparently, my code is wrong, when I think it is correct.

You're close, but the links need to be inside the list elements. Right now, your syntax is a bit off as you have the list inside of the link.
So it should go like this:
<li><a href="cakes.html">Cakes</a></li>
with, the anchor tags are nested inside of the list-item tags.
