iOS Swift Functions and Optionals Functions Function Return Types

I am not understanding return statements

Here are the instructions... Modify the definition of the function named greeting to return a String and replace the println statement with a return statement. The function should return a greeting. For example, if you pass in a string "Tom" then the return string would be: "Hello Tom".

returns.swift
func greeting(person: String) {
    return String
}

So right now the function takes in a string (person: String)

Then it returns the same string.

So inside the function, your code should modify the String before it gets returned.

At a high level

function greeting (String name){

String result = "Hello" + name

return result }
