I am stuck on this. How to set the name and treehouse variables as the X and Y and combine that in a string.

Finally, create a new variable named email_greeting that puts the treehouse variable and the name variable into the sentence "X loves Y" but with treehouse for X and name for Y. Don't forget your spacing!

name.py
name = str('Chase')
treehouse = 'Tree' + 'house'
email_greeting = '{} loves {}.'

hie Chase. firstly remove the str and the parenthesis surrounding your name. putting your name in quotes "" means that its a string so no need to put the function str. secondly to replace the X and Y with the treehouse variable and the name variable you have to use the .format and you will be good to go. I have made these few changes to your code and it worked.

name = 'Chase'

treehouse = 'Tree' + 'house'

email_greeting = '{} loves {}'.format(treehouse, name)
