I am trying to reverse items using an even number, but i keep getting error messages that the right values were not pass

I am trying to reverse items using an even number, but i keep getting error messages that the right values were not passed in reverse_evens

slices.py 
def first_4(item):
    return item[:4]
def first_and_last_4(things):
    firstFour= things[:4]
    lastFour = things[-4:]
    result = firstFour + lastFour
    return result
def odds(item):
    return item[1::2]
def reverse_evens(item):
    return item[::-2]

This code only passes when an odd length is passed. Think about how you can alter the code for an even length is passed in.
