i cant understand why we use generics<HourlyAdapter.ViewHolder> what was the purpose

It is not generic, it is very specific. You are telling the compiler that you want the class to extend the recycler.adapter and you want the adapter to use the viewholder you defined as a subclass instead of the default. That way you can control the content of, and the actions performed by, the views in each list-item
