HTML HTML Basics Getting Started with HTML Lists and Links Challenge

I do not understand what I am doing wrong, I am doing exactly what it is asking me to do.

Help, I think my quiz is messed up. I am doing what I am supposed to be doing.

index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <title>Lists and Links</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <ul>
      <a href="cakes.html"><li>Cakes</li></a>
      <a href="pies.html"><li>Pies</li></a>
      <a href="candy.html"><li>Candy</li></a>
    </ul>
  </body>
</html>

Looks like you have the <a> tags in the wrong place. Remember elements should close in the correct order. In your example, you have placed the closing </a> tag outside of the closing </li> tag, which means the list item is no longer a link and will not work. Instead, try the following:

<ul>
      <li><a href="cakes.html">Cakes</a></li>
      <li><a href="pies.html">Pies</a></li>
        <li><a href="candy.html">Candy</a></li>
</ul>

I hope that helps. All the best.

Your links are "inside out". The links ("a" elements) should be inside the list items ("li" elements).

A good rule to remember is that all direct children of a list (either "ul" or "ol") must be list items ("li").

Thank you!! I knew I was doing something wrong.
