WordPress How to Make a Website with WordPress Customizing WordPress Themes How to Make Child Themes

I don´t understeand what the teacher say:

.."Extra Credit: At this point in your extra credit you should have found a theme that you like for your site. Now, create a child theme for your site and begin to customize the look and feel so it works for your particular project.

You may find you only need to modify the CSS, however, look for an opportunity to customize the HTML or PHP as well, if only for practice.

At the end of this extra credit assignment you should have a site that looks pretty much exactly how you want it to."...

I don´t understeand why he talk about "extra credit! ( what is that?) and i don´t understeand about the child file and why we should download the proyect file?, What happend if i don´t have that download file? Pase i need more help with these thing about child themes..

Extra credit: a task or part of the course that is not essential, but will build your understanding further if you do it.

Child theme: a safe and easy way of modifying an existing theme. You basically make a copy, which then becomes the child theme. Then you change the bits that you want, and the rest of the theme stays the same as the original by inheriting the functionality of the original. You can learn more here..

Project files: you need these files to do the task, otherwise you would have to write every line of code yourself, which would be difficult for a begginer.

tHANK YOU VERY MUCH, IT`S MORE CLEAR FOR ME NOW. !
