I don't understand how the else if in the conditional statement is giving a syntax error. Please help.

var isAdmin = false; var isStudent = true;

if ( isAdmin ) { alert('Welcome administrator'); } else if (isStudent) { alert ('Welcome student') ;

script.js
var isAdmin = false;
var isStudent = true;

if ( isAdmin ) {
    alert('Welcome administrator');
} else (isStudent) {
  alert ('Welcome student') ;

Yes, Charlie is correct that you need an else if statement, but there are also syntax errors as you mentioned you were having. I made some comments below:

var isAdmin = false;
var isStudent = true;

if ( isAdmin ) {
    alert('Welcome administrator');
} else (isStudent) { //something missing on this line to complete the challenge.
  alert('Welcome student') ; //space not needed between alert and () but not sure that matters
                             //syntax error and something needed on this empty line.

Good luck! Let me know if you need any more help. :)

The question is asking for it to be an 'else if' and not an 'else' statement.

if ( isAdmin ) { alert('Welcome administrator'); } else if (isStudent) { alert('Welcome student'); }
