I don't understand how this test works with mailto()

Is the test looking in the whole object to see if a value of an attribute get an email?

I was trying to find a solution to check if writer.email have a mailto.. Maybe I missed something.

I already find the solution, I am just trying to understand it.

Thanks for your help
