I don't understand the relationship between Vagrant and the Git project

Hi to everyone,

I do not understand the relationship between Vagrant and the projects cloned by Hampton. I know what is VirtualBox but in this video I can't figure out its role in the situation. The same is for Vagrant-Git; a box is a fully configured OS running from the CLI (or terminal if you prefer) but I thought after the installation of the box, the teacher would have manually installed laravel into the box. Indeed, he download the git project. Why? Thank you.
