Hey, I do recommend taking JavaScript Basics. I had started this course before taking basics and felt overwhelmed with the amount of information you have to digest.

Now it is much easier to follow the instructions as I understand what the teacher is talking about.

  1. Take JavaScript Basics
  2. Come back to this course.

thank you so much. the html and css was easy to follow but then joy went into javascript and I was so lost! I am taking javascript basics now and then coming back to this so I have a clue of whats going on. I think they just want to keep teachers courses together but javascript basics should 100 percent be before this. Hard to follow this as a beginner!

This is already proving to be incredibly helpful and thankfully an eye opener for me realizing that TTH doesn't actually have the courses going from beginning to end in a comprehensible order. There are other instructors and courses I should be taking out of the order originally provided.

Thank you!

I agree with you! How is this supposed to be for a novice?

Joy is just flying through this course, but it would be so much better if it was broken down into smaller steps!

The nice thing about self-paced instruction is you can always slow it down. Take a break (hours, days, as long as you need) between sessions.

Also, spending extra time in the workspace playing with the techniques you are learning can help you become more comfortable with the information and retain it better.

Hey Thanks Steven, I found your answer also encouraging to my struggles grasping mongoose for an express api (another course).

Slow it down, take a break, or whatever else was mentioned above hasn't helped at all. This treehouse section is not broken down into manageable pieces for the beginner. This type of jargon should be broken down so that the beginner can understand it.

Hi Bridget, this course is certainly lacking. I recommend the js basics course https://teamtreehouse.com/library/javascript-basics

I also recommend the following free resources: http://jsbooks.revolunet.com/

happy coding

Thank you Abraham!

The course incrementally gets more advanced as it progresses. I have never taken a programming course so it is very difficult for me as well to comprehend and retain the information. The great thing is that you can always go back as many times as you want and do not worry about making mistakes. Break the coding in the workspace as much as you want and then you can just reset it. It is okay to get frustrated, walk away, come back, try again. Be like water. Given enough time you can break through all barriers!
