I have an existing logo which is a rectangle and I want to change it to a rounded rectangle on photoshop

I have already had a logo designed for a mobile app I am working on.

It currently has right angled corners and its dimension are 1047px by 1010px.

I would like to change it so it is 1000px by 1000px and has rounded corners which are each 200px.

I have tried changing it on photoshop and I have been able to create the desired shape by using the rounded rectangle tool to create a new layer.

However when I save the logo, the parts that I no longer want still appear in the saved image. How can I ensure that I only have the rounded rectangle for my logo and exclude all previous outer aspects?

Hi Piers-

There are two things that may be causing this.

  1. The logo in photoshop must only have transparent pixels behind its corners. Typically, this is indicated by a gray and white checker pattern.

  2. The logo must be saved as a file format that supports transparency, such as PNG. If you're trying to save to a JPG, photoshop will negate the transparency in the image, filing it with a solid color.

You have to edit the 'original' image. If your addition overrides the original, try merging the two. I'm assuming your original logo is .png or .jpg format already.
