Extra credit tasks are basically a way for you to take on a new challenge without the help of the teacher, you don't get points for it but you are more than welcome to share your code here on the forum and get feedback and opinions from other students.

Courses Plus Student 2,096 PointsI have noticed this too, in fact there is a grayed out star beside the challenge. So I completed my extra credit challenge today, but I don't get an highlighted star or extra credit?

As I said above extra credit challenges don't earn you points therefore it won't unlock as there's no way for the system to verify you've completed the challenge correctly, essentially it's a way for you to gain more knowledge about the language you're working with, without the teachers help.
