If I want to test some fragment, which test rule should I use? Could I find out the answer from digging the Android docs, the Android support library?

You don't need to use any fragment rules. Because activity contains fragment and you just need to find the view and perform things on it. For example, In fragment, you may have textview . so just find its id and do the stuff
