Design Illustrator Foundations Creating an Icon Understanding Shapes

Illustrator - Creating an Icon

I'm having trouble with this lesson: "http://teamtreehouse.com/library/illustrator-foundations-3/creating-an-icon/understanding-shapes-2"

My layers menu shows all these paths and they look like separate layers, but it still says I have 2 layers. These paths do not show on the instructor's Illustrator in his video. I don't know how I did this. I keep following him over and over with the directions, but I must be doing something wrong. If I delete one of the "paths", then it deletes a circle I made on the icon and I don't want that. Any ideas?

I believe I actually found the answer by going into the preferences for the layers box and clicking on show layers only. Thank you to anyone who read this!
