In d3 how to position svg element relative to position of another svg element?

For example I have a <text id ="theText"> which wraps and at the bottom of that element is a <rect>.

How do set rect's position to be directly under the text element and not overlap.

Something like this.

<rect transform="transalate( get height of theText + 20 , 0 )"
