Front End Web Development Techdegree Student 2,560 PointsIn-App Notifications
Hey everyone!
We just launched an awesome new feature: in-app notifications. From now on you'll receive live notifications for four initial events:
- Someone replies to a forum post you're subscribed to
- A new project gets added to a course you have progress in
- A new stage gets added to a project you have progress in
- Treehouse makes an announcement
When one of the above happens, you'll see a little red unread notification badge with a number show up on the bell icon in the top, right-hand corner of the website. Just click on the bell and you can see the notification. When you close the notification dropdown, the notifications it contains will be marked as "read" and the red badge will disappear.
Pro Tip: If you don't want to mark all of the notifications as "read" you can hit escape and the dropdown will close without marking its notifications as read.
We're pretty excited about this new addition to Treehouse and hope you will be too!

1,545 PointsNot sure If this is a bug or even possible, but I have received 29 e-mails so far from this forum post, kind of excessive. Maybe make it so that you could opt out of receiving e-mails when someone else posts a reply. Just an idea.
Keep it up, love this site!

Treehouse Guest Teacher@Joss that was because we didn't send one until just a little while ago. They should be more timely going forward :)

Tommy Morgan
Treehouse Guest Teacher@Suleiman, Kevin, and anyone else who wanted Chrome/Safari desktop notifications...
I got curious last night about how hard it would be to add those, and it turns out the answer is "not very hard at all." So they're in the app now. Just go to your notifications setting page (https://teamtreehouse.com/account/notifications) and check out the section titled "Enable Desktop Notifications."
As far as I'm aware this feature will only work in Chrome and Safari currently, although support for other browsers might be forthcoming.

Thanks!

James Barnett
39,199 Points@Tommy - Pretty sweet you can turn on Desktop notifications now.
I know of course in Chrome you can go to [chrome://settings/contentExceptions#notifications](chrome://settings/contentExceptions#notifications) to turn notifications off.
Although I think it would be a good idea from a UX perspective to be able to turn off the Desktop notifications on that same settings page.

Tommy Morgan
Treehouse Guest Teacher@James - notifications can only be disabled manually using your browser security settings - there's no way (right now, at least) for us to programmatically disable those notifications from our app.
