intent.putExtra() not being accepted in challenge

I believe I am using the putExtra method correctly but I keep getting the following compiler error:

./LaunchActivity.java:25: error: 'void' type not allowed here startActivity(i.putExtra("FUEL_LEVEL", mFuelLevel)); ^ 1 error

LaunchActivity.java 
import android.content.Intent;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;

public class LaunchActivity extends Activity {

  public Button mLaunchButton;
  public int mFuelLevel;

  @Override
  protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_launch);

    // mFuelLevel is set elsewhere.
    // Code ommitted for brevity!

    mLaunchButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.launchButton);
    mLaunchButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {

First call putExtra on the intent variable, then pass the intent to startActivity(). Change your code to this:

import android.content.Intent;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;

public class LaunchActivity extends Activity {

  public Button mLaunchButton;
  public int mFuelLevel;

  @Override
  protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_launch);

    // mFuelLevel is set elsewhere.
    // Code ommitted for brevity!

    mLaunchButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.launchButton);
    mLaunchButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {

      public void onClick(View v) {
        // Add your code in here!
        Intent intent = new Intent(LaunchActivity.this, FlightActivity.class);

Great! it worked. But I am still wondering why my code did not work. Technically is still correct right?

Eros Lombardi Yes, it is technically correct. I just created a sample app to test it and it works. I think somehow the Treehouse grading system doesn't recognize that as a correct answer.
