Is it better to work on wordpress locally than a dev site?

I have dev1.example.com set up with a 1 click wordpress install. Can I do my practice here and skip all of the local wordpress setup? Is there an advantage to working locally as opposed to creating multiple dev sites to work on projects? Will I still have access to download all of the wordpress files?

IMO a local dev is easier because you don't have to constantly be FTP'ing files to a dev server. Instead the files are just read locally. Usually I build locally, and than when I want to do some testing on multiple devices, networks, etc I'll upload to a dev site and test, and than finally to a production server.
