Is it safe to install a plugin like "Child Theme Configurator" and run it instead of making Child Themes manually?

Is it safe to install a plugin like "Child Theme Configurator" and run it in WP instead of making Child Themes manually like was taught in the video?

I mean, I couldn't understand the explanation at all and looking on the web I've found this plugin which, aparentlly, works.

I also was afraid of using "@import" method cause codex said its no longer best practice...
