Is the getApplicationContext(); not working?

I have tried to add the toast in multiple ways, none of them seem to work. The current solution is from the Android documentation and should work. (I know this is not the most effective way but it should be working propperly)

PodcastActivity.java 
import android.os.Bundle;

public class PodcastActivity extends AppCompatActivity {

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_podcast);
    }

    @Override
    public void onBackPressed(){

      super.onBackPressed();
      Context context = getApplicationContext();
      CharSequence text = "You pressed the back button!";
      int duration = Toast.LENGTH_SHORT;

      Toast toast = Toast.makeText(context, text, duration);
      toast.show();

    }
