Is the hibernate.cfg.xml file depracted?

Hi, I am wondering, if the hibernate.cfg.xml config file-method is depracted, since I havn't seen this way in any other tutorial. Anywhere else, people are using JPARepository-Class extension. Can anyone help me with this issue? Or has anyone got a nice tutorial or blog entry, where I can read something about this?
