Treehouse will occasionally do a "course refresh" which involves retiring an existing course and replacing it with a new version. You generally won't even be aware if this has been done unless you happen to catch it in the transition period, in which case you'll see banner notices across the top of the pages saying "This course will be retired on (some date), click here for the newer version".

Not all technologies advance in ways that break back-compatibility. Courses on those topics may remain in their original state for a long time. If you feel a course is in need of a refresh, you can always make a content suggestion to the staff as described on the Support page.
