Is this not correct?

I have placed the nav tag directly after the anchor/link tag and it says its incorrect, what am I doing wrong?

Okay. Did you add unordered list inside nav element?

Something like this

<nav>
      <ul>
      </ul>
</nav>

Hope it helps.
