I've been staring at what could be wrong with my code for quite awhile now, any ideas?

Am I missing a ; or camel case or something?

weather.js
$(document).ready(function() {
  var weatherAPI = 'http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather';
  var data = {
    q : "Portland,OR",
    units : "metric"
  };
  function showWeather(weatherReport) {
  $("#temperature").text(".main.temp");
  }
});
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
  <meta charset="utf-8">
  <title>What's the Weather Like?</title>
  <script src="jquery.js"></script>
  <script src="weather.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
  <div id="main">
    <h1>Current temperature: <span id="temperature"></span>&deg;</h1>
  </div>
</body>
</html>

Hi Seth, at the moment you are inserting a string with your text function but not the variables (please remove ""). Second: In order to access the temperature you have to access the container first (weatherReport). Please see below:

$(document).ready(function() {
  var weatherAPI = 'http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather';
  var data = {
    q : "Portland,OR",
    units : "metric"
  };
   function showWeather(weatherReport) {
  $("#temperature").text(weatherReport.main.temp);
  }
});

I was just looking at the jquery.com api documentation. It looks like you are using .text() incorrectly. Here is the link for more info: http://api.jquery.com/text/
