It all depends on the scenario, for grids you would use either inline-block or float. For a simple site that doesn't have too much stuff you could use block. Although, I would generally steer clear of table based layouts because they are very difficult to maintain, especially as they grow.

However, it all depends on what you need to do. Most sites end up using a combination of inline-block, block, and float.
