Local Mac install of NodeJS not working in Chrome or Atom console but works in Terminal fine.

I've installed Node JS per Treehouse instructions using Homebrew, etc and it seems to be working in the Terminal fine. But I cannot get it working in the Chrome console nor in the console in Atom. When typing "node -v" I get "Uncaught ReferenceError: node is not defined."

Any ideas, anyone?
