Lots of Forum Updates!

We've just launched a few nice little updates to the forum that we think will make it an even better place to ask questions and get answers.

Firstly, we spruced things up a bit with some new paint here and there. We added tags to the listing view, made it more obvious who forum moderators and Treehouse staff are, made pagination work a bit more nicely, and added a little notice to hit up customer support for any technical questions you might have.

There are also two new filters on the main listing page. The first is for unanswered questions to help those bubble up to the top so we can focus on getting those answered quickly. The other is for featured posts, like this one, which are posts that the Treehouse staff has decided are worth keeping around for easy reference. Think of it as our answer to the "sticky post". :smile:

The last, most major addition is forum search. In the top of the right-hand sidebar on every page in the forum, you'll find a little search box. Just type your query in there and hit enter. With any luck you'll be provided with some good search results to help you navigate the forums with great haste. :muscle:

Welp, I think that about sums it up. We've got more great things in store, so stay tuned!

And man, you guys are quick with the features - I just saw some of these ideas pop up on the forum and poof! they happen. Nicely done.

@Sara - If you check out the new featured posts filter, you'll see the New Features Straw Poll post, it was posted about a month ago, which is still pretty impressive turnaround, IMHO.

This is so awesome and will make it so much easier to make sure posts don't go unanswered. Until tagging, too it will be a great way to search for our names. It will also be handy to have the "featured" section. Thanks guys!:)

Really great new additions to the forum, I like that staff now have a little staff icon.

Im not sure if its just me, but there is no indication of the search box, just a white rectangle. on my page. Maybe if it was marked forum search or something like that it wouldn't look so strange

Great to see the search, as others have pointed out though it's not obv, its just another textbox in the top right.

once you've searched there is a magnifying glass at http://teamtreehouse.com/forum/search, should that green one be on the other pages?

FYI

A fix has been pushed out so now for the magnifying glass in the forum search box. I can see it now on Chrome under Windows 7 after a page refresh.

@James - That's what I get for having my default text size of the browser set a bit larger. Emailed the issue though. The height of that box is fixed, and the headline has a no-wrap rule on it.

@Matthias, that's more-or-less what the "Active" filter does. Is your idea for how that should work different? We're always open to suggestions. :smiley:

@Sean: Well I think it's a little bit counter-intuitive that there is only one timestamp which displays the start of the thread. So there is no explicit visual indicator which marks a reply except for the counter on the right. Most forums display the timestamp from the last change in a thread.

I'd personally prefer it this way, because it makes it easier for me to see which threads were changed.
