Manual Installation vs Installing through Hosting

Is there any reason that manual installation of Wordpress would be better than just installing through hosting?

No, manual installation isn't better - installing through hosting is easier to do if they have that option. If they don't, you would have to manually install. That's why you should know how to do both.

I agree with Diane, however I also think it depends on who is installing it. I recently had a client that botched the install process because they aren't very tech savvy. Although whether they botched it by their own mistake or from the hosting provider's fault could be debated.

Host Installation is better if:

  • Always
  • You're not a control freak
  • You like doing things smarter not harder.
  • Your hosting provider's installation script works properly.

Manual Installation is better if:

  • You're a control freak (I have some of these tendencies)
  • You like doing things the hard way (I also have some of these tendencies)
  • Your hosting provider's installation script doesn't work properly.
