Mobile first Bootstrap?

I see the benefits of doing mobile first, when you are using standard css, but how and why do you need to do "mobile first" with bootstrap?

The videos are showing examples using desktop sizes first not mobile?

Im clearly not understanding something here. Could someone please explain why it wouldn't be easier to create a website desktop view using bootstrap so the columns are "lg" that way mobile view would be stacked?

Thanks
