Modifying Elements

I am unable to figure out what I am doing wrong on this code. I have set the text content to the Id in <a> but it tells me that it loses the input value.

app.js
var inputId = document.getElementById("linkName");
var inputValue = inputId.value;
inputValue = document.getElementById("link").textContent;
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <title>DOM Manipulation</title>
    </head>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" />
    <body>
        <div id="content">
            <label>Link Name:</label>
            <input type="text" id="linkName">
            <a id="link" href="https://teamtreehouse.com"></a>
        </div>
        <script src="app.js"></script>
    </body>
</html>

Figured it out this is the finished code. My problem was that I wasn't setting my textContent to equal the input value.

var inputValue = document.getElementById("linkName").value;
var inputValue = document.getElementById("link").textContent = inputValue;
