My code isn't adding the classes for the foreach() loops

My code is below but it isn't executing as it is in the video. There are no additions to the class names when I check in Dev Tools.

<?php
  define("USE_FULL_NAME", FALSE);
  define("JOB_TITLE", "Student");
  define("MAX_BADGES", 20);

  $first_name = "Barry";
  $last_name = "Mul";
  $location = "Dublinia";
  $role = "Coder";
  $role = "Teacher";

  if(USE_FULL_NAME == TRUE) {

       $name = $first_name .' '. $last_name;
  } else {

  $name = $first_name . 'there is no last name';

  }

$social_icons = array('twitter','facebook','google');

?>

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset=utf-8>
    <title><?php echo $name?> is here | Treehouse Profile</title>
    <link href="css/style.css" rel="stylesheet" />
  </head>

  <body>
    <section class="sidebar text-center">
      <div class="avatar">
        <img src="img/avatar.png" alt="<?php echo $name?>">
      </div>
      <h1><?php echo $name?></h1>
      <p><?php echo $location?></p>
      <hr />
      <p>Welcome to PHP Basics!</p>
      <hr />
      <ul class="social">
        <?php

        foreach ($social_icons as $icon) {

        ?>

        <li><a href="#"><span class="icon <?php $icon?>"></span></a></li>
        <?php
        }
        ?>

      </ul>
    </section>
    <section class="main">
      <ul>
        <?php

          for ($counter=0; $counter <= MAX_BADGES; $counter++) {

            echo "<li>" . $counter  . " " . "SOMETHING" . "</li>";

          }
        ?>
      </ul>

Hey Barry, you just need to echo the $icon, similarly to the $name and $location earlier in the code.

Thanks a million Joel, that was annoying the life out of me. Don't know how I missed it. I guess that is what happens when you spend 10 hours in a row looking at code!
