enum ParserError: ErrorType {
  case EmptyDictionary
  case InvalidKey
}

struct Parser {
  var data: [String : String?]?

  func parse() throws {

      if data == nil {
          do {
              ParserError.EmptyDictionary
          }
       }
      guard let key = data["someKey": nil] else {
        throw ParserError.InvalidKey
      }

  }
}

let data: [String : String?]? = ["someKey": nil]

There are quite a few ways to solve this problem. You can take a look at a previous response of mine. Maybe you will find it of some use.
