Python Python Collections (2016, retired 2019) Slices Slice Functions

Need little help please. first and last in list..

OK, this second one should be pretty similar to the first. Make a new function named first_and_last_4. It'll accept a single iterable but, this time, it'll return the first four and last four items as a single value.

slices.py
def first_4(iterable):
    return iterable[0:4]

def first_and_last_4(iterable2):
    return iterable2[:4] and iterable2[-5:]

You are returning only the last 5 items. Try 'iterable2[-4:]' instead of 'iterable2[-5]', and put a ',' instead of 'and'.

It looks like you have two issues:

  • to join strings together, use "+" — "and" is for logical combining when you want a true/false result
  • a startintg value of -5 will give you last 5 characters instead of the last 4

Hi I don't know for sure but I thought 'and' was for true/true

By "true/false" I meant boolean.
