Networking Thursday

Hey Treehouse Students!

We're back with another Networking Thursday ā€“ giving you the opportunity to connect with other Treehouse Students!

Last week's networking session was another jam-packed community event! If you have friends you'd like to invite to participate ā€“ please feel free to send them over!

šŸ’¬ How to participate in Networking Thursday:

Engagement Question

  1. Answer the icebreaker question: What three words best describe you? āœØ
  2. Introduce yourself!
  3. Share your LinkedIn profile URL for other students to connect to
  4. Share links and/or screenshots of the projects you've been working on
  5. Share your interests, hobbies, etc!
  6. Chat with other students here by responding to their posts!

Make those connections, support each other, leave some endorsements/recommendations on other student's LinkedIn profiles, lend a helping hand to folx in search of work in tech, and give some positive feedback on fellow student's projects. We're all on this learning journey together!

I'll kick things off! šŸ’¬

I'm Ryan Mouser, the Content & Community Marketing Specialist here at Treehouse. I was 15 years old when I started learning to code in PHP for a popular text-based MMORPG game. I've been with Treehouse for over 2 years now and have had the amazing opportunity to wear many different hats. I've been learning with Treehouse since 2015 (you can check out my previous profile here).

Currently, I'm working alongside our world-class team on some exciting opportunities to bring the Treehouse Community closer together. Stay tuned! šŸ˜€

Outside of Treehouse, I have the joy of living life with my incredible wife, our 3 awesome kids, and our 2 cat furbabies. We love to make music, garden, cook, play games, and watch fun TV (any Avatar: The Last Airbender fans out there?)

Three words that best describe me: Creative, Compassionate, & Team-player

You can connect with me on LinkedIn here. Looking forward to connecting with y'all!

Happy networking! :)

Determined, Complex, Strong.

I'm kind of curious about the music making too! What genre? I feel like music production and coding really compliment each other.

  1. What Three Words Best Describes You? : Compassionate, Philosophical, Free-spirited!

  2. Introduce Yourself : My name is Tatjana! I'm currently working as a nurse while learning software development. I've been learning JavaScript for just over 2 weeks now.

  3. LinkedIn Profile URL : https://www.linkedin.com/in/tatjanaburdett/

  4. Links / Screenshots of Projects You're Working On : I think it's best to link my Github page for this -- https://github.com/tatjana-burdett. I've been practicing what I've been learning through Treehouse, but mainly small projects so far. I recently made a clock that updates in real time with the local time: https://github.com/tatjana-burdett/Basic-Clock. =) Baby steps, right?

  5. Share Your Interests or Hobbies : Oooh, where to begin? I'm a Hatha yoga instructor, but I don't teach. Yoga / meditation is for me and my mind -- it's great for enhancing productivity and clarity of thought. I'm also a hobby photographer and an electronic bedroom music producer -- which has been on semi-pause since beginning a serious coding-journey two weeks ago. I count traveling as one of my hobbies too, but that's on hold as well (COVID). I also love self-development, nonfiction books, cooking, paining and messing with Adobe After Effects.

Hello everyone! :alien:

Hi Tatjana! Nice to meet you. What drew you to start coding? How is it going so far? Yoga is wonderful!

Hello! Bedroom music producer is a term I'm going to borrow for my guitar playing haha!

Hatha yoga is fantastic, it's challenging physically and has always had a positive impact on my outlook and attitude! As far as your traveling goes, do you have a favorite place that you have been to so far?

Melinda Franklin : Nice to meet you too! I started coding when I was high school, way back in 2004-2006 ish. Real basic stuff. I loved it back then, but I just wasn't mature enough to do it yet? Nursing seemed like a clear and safe path... but I always loved coding. I'm really enjoying it! How about you? What brought you into coding?

Rabeah Abbas : You can definitely use it! :grinning: -- My favorite place that I've been so far is Geneva, Switzerland. I have mainly traveled to European cities, and across the US. I'd like to do more nature-oriented travels to places like Peru, Bolivia and Nepal though. Have you traveled anywhere interesting? :airplane:

I'm a little afraid of coding so I am doing UX Design! Haha, but I may pursue a FEWD Techdegree when I am done with the UX design. I really like the research part of UX design, so that's kind of what has drawn me in!

Bookworm, Intuitive, Outdoorsy

Introduce yourself!

Hey everyone, I'm Rabeah. Born and raised in San Diego, I worked as a WordPress developer for a few years in a marketing agency before COVID hit and I was laid off. Seemed like the perfect time to learn some new skills! My end goal is to take my design experience to the next level and land a new job in the dev field.

Honestly, outside of the coursework, I haven't had a ton of time to work on much! But as soon as an idea pops into my head that I want to build out, I will share my progress!

Share your interests, hobbies, etc!

I feel like I live two lives: My nerdy / techy side and my outdoorsy side. On the techy side, I love competitive video games, researching new gadgets, programming, and a few other things. I also love getting outdoors. Hiking and rock climbing are huge passions of mine. There's something therapeutic about pushing your body to the limit.

Outside of that, I'm a gear head when it comes to cars, and I've played guitar for about ten years now.

Hi Rabeah!

Being outdoors is a good counter to the nerdy side! I definitely feel like I can spend a lot more time in front of a computer if I also get outside and go hiking or exploring.

Nice to meet you!

What games are you playing? I just built my first monster pc this year which was a lot of fun.

Hi Mel, I'm in your awesome LinkedIn group too!

Hey Everyone!

Three Words That Describe Me (and why):

  • Curious. I like trying new things. Especially with food, love learning new recipes as well! :yum:
  • Thoughtful. In a sense that I tend to spend a lot time in my head thinking about how to better myself, the future, ideas, and other random things.
  • Nature-Lover. I love to take walks outdoors and sometimes do some photography of scenery too. :evergreen_tree:

Greetings! I'm Amah. I wrote my very first program when I was about 14-15 in my TI-83 calculator where I created a guess the number and it would tell you how hot or cold you were to guessing the right number. I aspire to be a great software developer some day! I love working with data and I enjoy learning to program so I hoping to land an ideal career in which I work with both. Currently, I'm learning Python and have taken courses in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and SQL here in Treehouse.

Outside of learning to code and work, I enjoy playing video games (any DDR or Stardew Valley fans?), learning new cooking recipes, photography and walking outdoors. Glad to meet you all!

I would be glad to connect and chat with you on LinkedIn about coding here.

Look forward being on this coding journey with you all!

Hello! The TI-83 days were great, I remember sideloading games like Tetris and Minesweeper on there! Awesome that you programmed your own!

Stardew Valley is a great game, I may have spent wayyy too much time playing it!

All about Snake instead of actually doing Trig!

Haha! Fun times for sure! Yes, I too have spent more time than I would like to admit on Stardew Valley.

Hi, I'm Jake. I've worn many hats, but the Dev hat I like a lot. I build and maintain websites for car dealers in my current role but hoping to find a new fully remote opportunity soon, maybe as a Ruby on Rails Developer. -> Could actually use some help on a current project for any generous, knowledgeable folks out there.

My LinkedIn <- Hope I got the markdown right.

For those who like the Outdoors and Travel -> Still a major work in progress. Proof of my many hats

I'm actually trying to rebuild both of these with Ruby on Rails, but I'm stuck trying to import Bootstrap sass. Like I mentioned before, if anybody wants to help me with that feel free to contact me on LinkedIn.

| Share your interests, hobbies, etc! | Both sites above go into further details but I love to travel and adventure outdoors with my wife. Play video games and make art in whatever way I please, that includes coding!

Pleased to meet you!

What three words best describe you? āœØ Persistent, Thoughtful and Curious Introduce yourself! Hello! My name is Jenn and I am a former teacher, current stay at home Mom to twins. I have been doing treehouse for five weeks now so no new projects to share yet but I love seeing what others are working on.

Share your interests, hobbies, etc! I am an avid reader, because of Covid I am also now homeschooling my preschoolers and I love to travel (well, reminisce about when I could travel:) I also love TV that it is usually embarrassing to explain the plot Like Teenage Bounty Hunters and The 100.
