Use the third example in the pluralize docs to a the suffix of "f" (singular) or "ves" (plural):

You have {{ num_cherries }} cherr{{ num_cherries|pluralize:"y,ies" }}.

except you'll use "f" and "ves" as the alternative suffixes

Hello This is what i did

{% if num_elf %}
     {{ num_elf }}elf
{% else %}
     el{{ num_elf|pluralize:"ves"}}
{% endif %}
