Not entirely sure what is going on

I'm going through and watching these videos a few times over, but I'm not really understanding what is going on. During the challenge quizzes, I have to stop and look up the answer because I'm always completely stumped, even though I have the workspace up that we are working in. Whenever I read the reasons why something is the way that it is, everyone seems to understand, but I still don't know why something is the way that it is. I have to learn this for a college course this coming semester, but I'm freaking out because I'm not grasping the material. Can anyone help me out or give me advice on what to do?

One suggestion is to go to Youtube and work on another tutorial while you are working on this one. Put up a book if you have to. Don't let this site be your main source of learning. That's why they put reference sites in the notes.
