Now is there a way to do this with a custom domain?

I can't see the video, so I'm not entirely sure if this answers your question, but custom domains can be pointed to GitHub Pages. You'll have to create a CNAME file. Details at the link below. https://help.github.com/articles/setting-up-a-custom-domain-with-github-pages/
