Design Design Foundations Introduction to Design Great Designers: Part 1

Other designers' work

Hello everyone,

I just recently started the Web Design's courses and I'm loving so far what I've seen. I was searching through Google and came across other designers works such as Milton Glaser (I Heart NY) or Massimo Vignelli (NYC subway map). I was wondering if you guys had other suggestions on any other designers that you liked and that have influenced your work?

Thanks

Paul Rand (not to be confused with politician Rand Paul. Ever.), Ellen Lupton, & Chip Kidd. Paul Rand wrote some fantastic books about design, too. The best prof in my graphic design program has all of her students do a project on Paul Rand, laying out various essays of his. Mine was a magnetic Tangram set based on his article on Art & Play.

Sharon Smith, Paul Rand is a good one! The Treehouse MODs aren't going to like this one, but Von Glitschka is an excellent illustrator that does videos for Lynda.com. Doyald Young is a wonderful hand-drawn typographer.

Sharon Smith Tyler Groskreutz Agree with both! I'm obsessed with typography so I find myself looking at Paula Scher's work a lot. Some others I always go to for inspiration: Michael Bierut (good one to look at for branding), Stefan Sagmeister (interesting concepts from his studio), Aaron Draplin, Jessica Hische (lettering).

Draplin is an excellent logo designer! I attended some of his workshops while he was a visiting artist when I was in college. He has a lot of good methods for the process of building logos with meaning in them.

Saul Bass whets my interest. I noticed that Schindler's List was one of his film posters. I thought Schindler's List was a brilliant movie but only now have I taken an interest in who designed the poster for it.
