padding-left: 1em; padding-right: 1em; Shouldn't they take themselves out and therefore result in nothing

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/padding-left Playing around with the examples I came to the result that padding-left= dragging the text to the left and therefore nothing should happend if u add padding-left: 1em; and padding-right: 1em; What am i thinking wrong?

Padding refers to the spacing inside your element or content. The spacing is spread evenly in this case on left and right sides of your content, thus, there is still spacing or padding applied. It does not equal to nothing. In fact, you now have a total of 2em padding if you add those up.
