if i hit alt + 7 it wont showup the pipe symbol in my treehouse terminal
iam using macox mavericks german. please help.
btw.. shift+7 is not working either..

I know this is a rather old question that you may have found the answer for already, but generally on a Mac keyboard, you can find a button called "AltGr". If you do certain keyboard combinations with this button, you can produce certain characters. On this page on Wikipedia, I found that you can press the "AltGr" key and the ">" symbol to produce the | symbol on your computer when using the German keyboard layout. Cheers!

12,134 PointsI know it's a rather old answer ;), but no, that does not work. For some reason the treehouse console does not understand the AltGr key and won't accept any character that uses it.

Better than switching around keyboard layouts, as it's just this treehouse console that won't accept the usual way of typing these characters for some reason.

15,719 PointsJust for future reference Andrew, you should only redirect someone to Treehouse support if they're having an issue with the Treehouse site itself. This isn't a Treehouse site issue.
