Hi,
I've looked at other similar questions but none seem to have the same problem as me.
I think I copied the code exactly from the video, but the link is still taking me to a new page. What is going wrong?
var $overlay = $('div id="overlay"></div>');
$("body").append($overlay);
$("#a imageGallery").click(function(event){
event.preventDefault();
var href = $(this).attr("href");
console.log(href);
$overlay.show();
});

Your functional code looks good! I think the problem is that you're not selecting the overlay!
try
var $overlay = $('<div id="overlay"></div>');
Edit: Also Joshua has a great point about your jquery selection!

8,821 PointsYour code looks great!!
If i'm not mistaken, you're also selecting $("#a imageGallery")
, when I think it should actually be $("#imageGallery a")
because the links are inside of the imagegallery id and not the other way around.
This might also explain why the default wasn't being stopped. (if the wrong links were being selected)
I hope this helps!! :-)

Treehouse Moderator 27,696 PointsI fixed your formatting. You used the apostrophe instead of the backtick (symbol to the left of the
1
).
