Problems with characters in the treehouse console

I am learing the console and I am using the Treehouse Console but I can't seem to write the "Pipe symbol |" and the "Dollar sign $" in the console. However I can write them everywhere else. I have a swedish keyboard and I type Ctrl+Alt+4 for dollarsign and Ctrl+Alt+GreaterThen for pipe. Does anyone know why I can't write them in the console?

Same here, with a german keyboard. I'm normally using the combination Alt Gr + < for the pipe and Alt Gr + + for the tilde. No problems with the dollar sign, cause I don't need the Alt Gr key for that.
