question not accepting correct answer

although answer is correct, I get "bummer! did you use del?". output says file not closed

messy = [5, 2, 8, 1, 3]

Hi Maurice,

The use of the del keyword does not require parentheses.

del messy[2]

You are using del as a function Instead of a statement. It doesn't need any parentheses. Just write del messy[2] and your code should work.
