running PHP through wordpress

Hey there,

So 50% of the jobs out there seem to be for wordpress developers. I'm half decent at PHP at this point, but have never even touched wordpress. How do i go about putting my code on wordpress to make a wordpress page? The idea here would obviously be the expand my portfolio to appear to this job market as well.

With PHP knowledge, you should be able to code in Wordpress, but will need HTML/CSS as well.
