Scope of the methods in ruby

How were you able to access the price per unit variable created inside the scope of the conditional statements?

A conditional doesn't constitute a separate scope, and a local variable defined inside a method (and not in a loop) can be accessed throughout the method.

This might not be the case in other languages, so if you're already familiar with any other(s) be careful to avoid confusing their rules.
