Select the second SPAN element on the page and assign it to the variable lastName on line 2. Take a look in the index.ht

Can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong in my code?

var fullName = document.getElementById("full_name");
var lastName = document.getElementsByClassName("last_name");
<!DOCTYPE html>
<h1 id="full_name"><span class="first_name">Andrew</span> <span class="last_name">Chalkley</span></h1>

Hi James,

You are really close, the getElementsByClassName() method will return an array of matching objects even if only one object exists so you would need to access the object via the correct position in the array.

var fullName = document.getElementById("full_name");
var lastName = document.getElementsByClassName("last_name")[0];

Hope that helps.
