Setting up Inc files for DB Credentials

Hi there, In this tutorial, Randy is concatenating the constants for the DB credentials. Where it used to be

dbname=shirts4mike is now dbname=" . DB_NAME . "

Why the concatenation? Shouldnt we be able to just write dbname=DB_NAME; ?
