Sketch or Affinity Designer?

Hello TreeHouse community,

I am looking to purchase some software to design with, but can't afford anything from the Adobe suite. At the moment, I am trying to decide between Sketch or Affinity Designer. What's your preference between these two options?

I will be working on websites as well as iOS applications.

Regards, Samson Cohen

I'm not a designer, but I've turned their designs into working things for awhile ;).

My preference and many of the designers I've worked with use photoshop. The next that I've seen taking the web land / mobile by storm is Sketch. I mainly only get designs in Sketch format from designers recently.

So I would recommend Sketch.

Hi there,

I really believe that it depends on your personal preferences and what are you aiming to achieve with the tool.

Sketch is good for website/app designs and I use it almost everyday for creation of wireframes to high-fidelity mock-ups and sometimes even vector artwork. It's just really simple and intuitive to use, has a clear interface and let's you export in a snap. I really like the alignment tools as they are very helpful when building layouts and some of the more advanced features like symbols and shared styles.

Personally I haven't used Affinity Designer, but before an year or so when I was comparing those two, Affinity was still in beta and it seemed kinda sloppy. Maybe today they have it a lot better, I am not aware.

Hope that I have helped with my opinion/experience :)

Yes, that helps a lot. Thank you! Seems like Sketch is the winner so far... I'm gonna go with that I think.
